Concretament, han descobert com els avantpassats dels actuals peixos de mar van passar de l&#8217;aigua dol\u00e7a i van conquerir els oceans, i ho han publicat a la revista Molecular Biology and Evolution. L&#8217;estudi ha estat liderat per Joan Cerd\u00e0 i Roderick Nigel Finn, investigadors de l&#8217;Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroaliment\u00e0ries (IRTA) i de la Universitat de Bergen (Noruega), adscrits a l&#8217;Institut de Biotecnologia i Biomedicina de la Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona (IBB-UAB).
