\"\"The\u00a0Insti<\/strong><\/em>tut de Biotecnologia i de Biomedicina<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>(IBB)<\/strong> was created in 1970 as a research institute of the\u00a0<\/span>Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona<\/em>\u00a0(UAB). Although the institute was originally devoted to promoting fundamental biological research, we have been <\/span>focusing in the Biotechnology and Biomedicine fields<\/strong> for the <\/span>last 20 years<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

We conduct\u00a0top-level scientific research<\/strong>\u00a0with the mission to improve the health and quality of life of the population through the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge. Our researchers participate in high competitive calls, both national and internationally, aimed at funding basic and translational research.<\/p>\n

Among the 200 researchers<\/strong>\u00a0currently working at the IBB, there are lecturers and professors from the UAB, ICREA professors and senior researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and PhD and Master students. The IBB hosts\u00a018 research groups<\/strong>\u00a0organised into\u00a03 scientific programmes<\/strong>\u00a0covering different areas that include bioinformatics, cellular and structural biology, genomics, immunology, microbiology and proteomics.<\/p>\n

Our multidisciplinary nature<\/strong> is one of the most relevant characteristics of the IBB and\u00a0allows for a broad approach to biological problems<\/strong> in a vibrant scientific environment. The IBB researchers have expertise in different topics within the biomedicine and the biotechnology field.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\"\"The IBB is also\u00a0highly engaged in training<\/strong>\u00a0of researchers to an international standard and it is committed to the training of students, which will be key to future progress.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0IBB shares its in-campus building with biotech companies and technological platforms<\/strong>\u00a0including Genomics and Bioinformatics (SGB), Proteomics and Structural Biology (SEPBioES) and Cytometry, Cell culture and Antibody Production (SCAC). These scientific facilities were born within the IBB and now they work offering their services to the IBB researchers, the UAB community and external users.<\/p>\n
