Narcís Monturiol Medal

Professor Antonio Villaverde, Full Professor of Microbiology at the Department of Genetics and Microbiology at the UAB, and leader of the research group on Innovative Biopharmaceuticals (https://portalrecerca.uab.cat/ca/organisations/bio-f%C3%A0rmacs -innovators) of the IBB-UAB and of Nanobiotecnología (https://www.ciber-bbn.es/grupos/grupo-de-investigacion?id=3632) of the IBB/UAB/CIBER-BBN, has received the Narcís Monturiol 2024 medal awarded by the Government of Catalonia for scientific and technological merit (https://www.uab.cat/web/sala-de-premsa/detall-noticia/el-govern-concedeix-una-medalla-narcis- monturiol-al-professor-antonio-villaverde-1345829508832.html?detid=1345915180700).

Antonio Villaverde

These awards, instituted in 1982, distinguish individuals and entities for their outstanding contribution to the development of science and technology in Catalonia, and were named in honour of the famous 19th century Catalan inventor and politician, Narcís Monturiol Estarriol (1819 -1885).

Dr Villaverde leads or participates in the following active research projects, carried out at the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine:
